From the artist: Mickey Mantle! As a young boy just getting into baseball, Mickey Mantle had only hung up his cleats 20 years before (now with age and context, I realize just how brief 20 years actually is) but even then, Mantle was already viewed as a baseball all-time great. No time-will-tell needed, this single digit Yankee and Hall of Famer was certainly in another echelon of greatness.

I wanted to do a print that felt particularly of the era that Mantle played. I wanted it to feel as classic as Mantle is in my own mind. Taking cues and colors from early Superman releases, we have The Commerce Comet here, swinging his bat with a mighty comet tail itself, swinging for the skies, existing is baseball immortality.

“Every time I look at these prints, I think of my father. If artists can channel their adversity into incredible works of art that we get to enjoy, then we should challenge ourselves to turn our struggles into something that can benefit others.”

Meet the Artist

Daniel is the artist that designs all of our Pop Fly Pop Shop prints. Every piece is made with purposeful intentionality and thoughtful effort. Daniel is a storyteller, and during every drop, he is able to showcase the player’s journey and important moments from their career. The art prints do not simply focus on the player's image but about the entire path that has led them to the big leagues.
