Kenny Washington, born in 1918, was a groundbreaking American football player and a contemporary of Jackie Robinson at UCLA. At UCLA, Washington and Robinson were teammates, showcasing remarkable talent on the field. After college, Washington faced racial barriers, being initially denied the opportunity to play professional football due to the color of his skin. However, in 1946, he shattered these barriers by signing with the Los Angeles Rams, becoming the first African American to play in the NFL in its modern era. His pioneering entry into the NFL predated Robinson's integration of Major League Baseball. Washington's professional career, although hampered by knee injuries, marked a significant moment in sports history, symbolizing a crucial step towards racial equality in American sports.

“Every time I look at these prints, I think of my father. If artists can channel their adversity into incredible works of art that we get to enjoy, then we should challenge ourselves to turn our struggles into something that can benefit others.”
