From the artist:

Besides being part of the Mount Rushmore for Defensive ends, David D Jones was one of the early characters of the game. He gave himself a moniker, created a character, and played into the themes. "My name is Deacon Jones," he announced to the press in LA. "I've come to preach the gospel of winning football to the good people of Los Angeles."

And he did take quarterbacks to church with an unofficial sack count of 173.5. Oh, and - the word 'sack'? - he made that word up.
When asked if he had any regrets about his career, he did have one: that he didn't kill more quarterbacks.

Whether he's a hero or villain to you, one thing is certain: Deacon Jones was an unforgettable character.

“Every time I look at these prints, I think of my father. If artists can channel their adversity into incredible works of art that we get to enjoy, then we should challenge ourselves to turn our struggles into something that can benefit others.”
