Johnny Bench, the Cincinnati Reds catcher, earned many nicknames during his career, but "The Little General" was perhaps the most fitting. Standing six one, and weighing nearly 200 pounds, Bench's nickname clearly wasn't about his physical stature. It was a tribute to his leadership and command of the game.
Bench was a key player in the Reds' championship teams of the 1970s, winning two National League MVP awards and setting the standard for what a catcher should be. He combined strength, athleticism, and intelligence, making him one of the most complete players of his era.

Off the field, Bench was known for his laid-back demeanor and sense of humor. But on the field he was a fierce competitor and respected leader! His nickname was a testament to his ability to take control of the game and direct his teammates to victory.

In short, "The Little General" captures the essence of what made Johnny Bench one of the greatest catchers and leaders in baseball history. 

This 7 x 10.5" art print will be available for purchase between now and 3/26/23, after which it is retired forever. The artwork is estimated to ship between 40-60 days after the purchase window closes. This is not a guaranteed timeline, only an estimate.
