From the Artist: Hall of Famer “Edgar Martinez” has a moment so iconic to Seattle sports-lore that all you need to say is “The Double” and any Mariner fan will know exactly which double you’re talking about: The 11-th inning double off the bat of Martinez in game 5 of the 1995 ALDS. At the time there were rumors that the team would be sold and/or relocated. The Mariners had only racked up 2 winning seasons since joining the league in 1977. A late-season comeback sent them to their first postseason appearance in franchise history in 95 and they then mounted a series of comebacks in the ALDS, first overcoming a 2-game series deficit to force a deciding Game 5, then tying Game 5 in the 8th inning to force extra innings, and finally a one-run 11th inning deficit that was overcome by - The Double.
