In the pantheon of electrifying baseball players, few possessed the combination of style, grace, and sheer audacity quite like Tim "Rock" Raines. The moniker "Rock" aptly described his unyielding resolve and solid presence on the field. Throughout his illustrious career, Raines etched his name in the annals of baseball history, leaving an indelible mark as one of his era's most versatile and dynamic players.

Born on September 16, 1959, in Sanford, Florida, Raines developed a love affair with baseball from an early age. Gifted with blazing speed and an innate ability to read the game, Raines became a beacon of hope for Montreal Expos fans when he arrived in the big leagues in 1979. Clad in the distinctive tricolor cap, Raines embodied the essence of the Expos' ambitious and eclectic brand of baseball.
While Raines' sheer speed on the basepaths was the stuff of legends, it was his uncanny ability to wreak havoc on opposing pitchers that set him apart. Crouched in his signature stance, Raines was a master at luring pitchers into making costly mistakes, capitalizing on their hesitations with lightning-quick stolen bases. His astonishing success rate of 84.7 percent solidified his place as one of the game's premier basestealers.

Raines's prowess extended far beyond stolen bases, though. A switch-hitter with a compact, fluid swing, he possessed the rare ability to consistently make solid contact from both sides of the plate. His batting average and keen eye for drawing walks consistently placed him among the league leaders in on-base percentage—a testament to his disciplined approach and unwavering patience at the plate.

The peak of Raines's career coincided with the Expos' golden age, as they showcased a roster teeming with young, vibrant talent. Raines earned seven consecutive All-Star selections from 1981 to 1987, showcasing his well-rounded skills on the game's grandest stage. With Raines as their catalyst, the Expos experienced a renaissance, capturing fans' hearts with their scintillating baseball brand.

However, Raines's journey continued after the Expos. In 1990, he embarked on a new chapter as a member of the Chicago White Sox, where his impact on the field remained undiminished. Thriving under the guidance of manager Jeff Torborg, Raines provided veteran leadership and infectious enthusiasm that rejuvenated the White Sox. His pivotal role in the team's march to the 1993 American League West title epitomized the value he brought to every team he graced with his presence.
Raines's nomadic journey through the baseball landscape eventually led him to don the uniforms of the New York Yankees, Oakland Athletics, Baltimore Orioles, and Florida Marlins. With each stop, Raines left an indelible imprint, endearing himself to fans and teammates alike with his magnetic personality and unyielding dedication to the game.

In 2017, Raines received the ultimate validation for his remarkable career when he was enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. The honor underscored his status as one of the most electrifying and beloved players of his era. From the sun-soaked fields of Montreal to the concrete jungles of Chicago and beyond, Tim "Rock" Raines showcased the timeless artistry of baseball, forever etching his name among the immortals of the game.

“Every time I look at these prints, I think of my father. If artists can channel their adversity into incredible works of art that we get to enjoy, then we should challenge ourselves to turn our struggles into something that can benefit others.”
