But with Tug, there it was already. I didn’t have to make the connection. It had been sitting there since the ’70s.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eIt all came together for me pretty much instantly.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI knew I wanted to pay homage to Witte’s original \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003eScroogie\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e art style and use it to tell Tug’s biggest Phillies moment. So this is a love letter to Tug, to Mike Witte, to \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003eScroogie\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, to Philadelphia.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eBut there’s another part of this one that’s really personal for me.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThose paperback collections of comic strips were probably the thing I checked out from the library more than anything else when I was a kid. If it wasn’t \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003eMAD Magazine\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e or \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003eCracked\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, it was \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe Family Circus\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, Al Jaffee, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003eGarfield\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cspan\u003eHägar the Horrible\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e...whatever I could get my hands on.
